Hurling and Camogie Equipment Initiative

 

Cumann na mBunscol Phort Láirge launched an exciting Hurling and Camogie Equipment Initiative for Waterford Primary Schools in January 2013.

The initiative/promotion scheme was open to all primary schools under the following criteria:

  • School is affiliated to Cumann na mBunscol
  • A permanent member of teaching staff agrees to assist with organising scheme in their school
  • There is an established club/school link and club personal appointed
  • Target classes of senior infant and first class are willing to participate in months of April/May 2013
  • School agrees to continue the initiative annually
  • School has signed Heads of Agreement document as circulated by their visiting GDA during 2011-2012 school year. (Copies of Agreement are still available through GDAs)
  • School Principal signs off on application
  • Equipment will remain in the school for the promotion of Gaelic Games in future years
  • A short one A4 page report to be submitted by school at end of initiative for use on www.cumannnambunscolwaterford.com

The following is an overview of the format:

  • Chosen schools will receive equipment up to a value of €1,000 depending on school size prior to commencement of the scheme.
  • The school will select and agree four days in the months of April/May when coaching can take place in the school for senior infants and first class pupils
  • Club/school link personal will be available to coach children and GDA will assist on a minimum of two of these days.

School submitted an entry form if they wished to be considered for the initiative. County Committee of Cumann na mBunscol used the criteria and format outlined above to select the winning schools with assistance from G.A.A. County Games Manager.

Having considered all entries received the following schools were presented with complimentary gear on Thursday 11th April 2013 in Lawlor’s Hotel, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Eastern Schools:     Holy Cross N.S., Portlaw N.S, Killea N.S.

Western Schools:    St. Mary’s N.S., Scoil Naomh Gobnait, Whitechurch N.S.
